October is National Financial Planning and Cybersecurity Awareness Month
Protect today. Plan ahead. Feel confident about what’s next.
October is National Financial Planning Month and a great reminder to take a closer look at where you are now, financially, and where you want to go next.
Financial planning doesn’t have to mean complicated spreadsheets or big changes. Sometimes, it’s simply making sure your money is working for you, protecting what you’ve built, and having a plan for the goals and expenses ahead.
This month, we’re sharing a few ways DOCFCU can help you protect, prepare and plan for what’s next.
Community is Part of the Plan
Financial well-being is about more than managing money. It’s also about building stronger, healthier communities and sometimes that means simply showing up.
Recently, DOCFCU team members volunteered with Bread for the City. An organization in Washington D.C. with a mission to help DC residents living with low income to develop their power to determine the future of their own communities. They provide food, clothing, medical care, and legal and social services to reduce the burden of poverty.
Our team volunteered in the pantry to distribute one month worth of groceries to neighbors in the DC community. Seeing families and individuals receive fresh food and essential groceries was a meaningful reminder of the impact we can make when we come together.
We’re proud to give our time and energy to organizations that are helping our neighbors meet everyday needs and build a stronger future.
Protect Your Money. Protect Your Information.
October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month a timely reminder that protecting your finances starts with protecting your personal information.
Scammers are constantly finding new ways to make fraudulent emails, texts, and phone calls look legitimate. A few simple habits can help you stay one step ahead.
Keep you finances safer:
- Think before you click. Be cautious with unexpected links, attachments or requests for information
- Keep passwords private. Never share your online banking password or one-time passcode.
- Turn on multi-factor authentication whenever it’s available
- Watch for phishing. Don’t assume a message is legitimate just because it appears to come from a company you know.
- When in doubt, verify. Contact the organization directly using a trusted phone number or website.
Remember: DOCFCU will never ask you for your home banking credentials or a one-time passcode through an unsolicited message.
This cybersecurity awareness month, take a few minutes to review your digital security habits. A little prevention can go a long way toward protecting what matters most.
