Equifax Data Breach Information

As you probably know, Equifax recently experienced a major data breach. Equifax reports that over 143 million people may have been affected. The hackers accessed people’s names, Social Security numbers, birth dates, addresses and, in some instances, driver’s license numbers.

The credit union uses Equifax for credit checks and credit reporting associated with our financial products. Many of you have raised concerns related to the breach. The credit union shares those concerns.

We recommend that all of our members visit the Federal Trade Commission’s website specifically related to the Equifax breach at https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/blog/2017/09/equifax-data-breach-what-do. You will find helpful tips on what to do to protect your credit and how to find out if you were one of the individuals affected in the breach. One of the most important steps you should already be taking is regular monitoring of all of your credit card and bank accounts.
